Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I order these fence posts?

Fill out an expression of interest form at https://faa.ruralaid.org.au/fence-post-program/. You will be required to provide proof that you are a primary producer with a current ABN and that you are from one of the 6 eligible local government areas. You also need to be registered with Rural Aid.

2. What type of fence posts are these?

The posts range in size and dimensions depending on their purpose:

  • Posts: 120cm x 120cm square x 2.4m long
  • Corner posts: 200cm x 200cm square x 2.4m long
  • Strainer posts: 300cm x 400cm diameter x 2.4m long
  • Timber droppers

3. Can I sell the leftover posts?

No. We ask primary producers to only order what they need to maximise the number of producers that can be assisted.

4. I don’t need a kilometres-worth of fence posts, can I give the rest to my neighbour?

We ask that you only order what you need, this way we can maximise the number of producers who can be assisted. We would encourage your neighbour to put in their own application.

5. I need 2 km and I want my fence to be matching. Can I buy more?

Currently the scheme is using collected storm damaged timber from within the listed local government areas (LGAs), so supply is limited at this point. If there is a surplus, we will contact those who have indicated a desire for more fencing.

6. What is included in the kilometre of fencing?

Item Dimensions Max. Qty Available Pack Size
Fence Posts 125x50x2.4 145 9
Droppers 50x40x1100 450 100
Corner Posts 200x200x2.0 1 1
Strainer Post s 300x300x2.2 1 1
Strainer post 400x400x2.2 1 1

7. My neighbour doesn’t want any, can I have his allocation?

No. The aim of the program is to assist as many primary producers as possible, so we ask that people follow the spirit of the program and only take their personal allocation.

8. Do I need to treat these posts?

Yes. Every primary producer has a preference to how their timber is treated so this will be left to the farmers.

9. Do the fence posts come with all the wire and other stuff I need?

The fence posts are being provided, however any other materials required to complete the fencing will be the responsibility of the applicant.

10. Can I have star pickets instead please?

In the aim of simplifying this process, only the items listed on the order form will be available.

11. I don’t need corner posts, can I have extra normal posts?

If you do not need a corner post, please indicate this on your order form, however we can’t provide additional normal posts instead.

12. My property is not in these areas, but I was flooded, can I still have them?

Only the LGAs that are providing the timber for this program will be included into this program – these are Hepburn, Macedon Ranges, Cardinia, Murrindindi, Yarra Ranges and Moorabool.

13. How long does it take from when you let me know I am eligible to when I get the delivery?

We are allowing a minimum of 30 days from date of order to allow maximum drying time for the timber prior to delivery.
